study: memory

study: memory

This project was born on a conceptual basis out of an academic assignment with the requirement of considering everything forgotten. This body isn’t purely about the ascetics or composition of the images, more the idea that all of these were taken at moments that will be forgotten; which calls into question the fallibility of memory, even the accuracy of memory.

Photographs are considered to be “the whole story,” generally nobody questions the integrity of a photo. Each of these photos is a small piece of the story of my daily life, but taken out of context the images are meaningless, much like memories. Do these images have any integrity taken out of context? What use is a memory of the radio console in your car? This project at this point is broad and tackles many questions and ideas, all of which aren’t unique to this project but common to humanity and philosophy.

The images are one every hour, on each day of the week; a Monday through Sunday week. Each day, I tried to make the images at different times throughout the hour, for example: Monday 12:22, 1:22, 2:22… then on Tuesday 12:42, 1:42, 2:42… I went about the project in this manner to try to gain a different sampling of each hour of each day. While the timing isn’t completely perfect, you can still find meaning in the images.

In its current form this set of images is a study, one of many ideas that I’d like to examine. Feedback on the images and/or project as a whole is always welcome.
